Small village of the Drôme, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Mollans-sur-Ouvèze takes place between the Dauphiné and Comtat Venaissin, a few kilometers from Buis-les-Baronnies and Vaison-la-Romaine. The town served for a long time border between the Drôme and Vaucluse.

The so-called Porte des Baronnies is an old fortified city born during the 10th century. Formerly owned by the barony of Mévouillon, the village of Mollans-sur-Ouvèze was the scene of many battles during the wars of religion in the sixteenth century.

Today calmer and soothed, the town of the south of France known for the Coco de Mollans, remains appreciated for its ideal geographical situation to discover the most tourist sites of the area, as well as for its architectural inheritance.

Things to see and do

Quiet village full of charm with its olive trees, its vines, and its lavender, Mollans-sur-Ouvèze unveils traditional medieval streets leading to monuments to discover with pleasure. In the lower town, you can admire the bridge of medieval origin to a single arch. Not far away, one of the three towers that once served as a defensive system still stands. Called Clock Tower, it served as a base for the construction of a belfry in the course of the eighteenth century.

Do not miss to admire the fountain at the Dauphin and its covered lavoir with seven arcades, both classified as Historical Monuments, before reaching the upper town.

In the heights, there are narrow streets lined with old houses waiting for you. At the top, you can discover the remains of the old castle, including the lower part of the dungeon and some tusks. Built in the 12th century, it is now a private property combining a Renaissance and a medieval part.

The church Saint-Marcel, a little lower, reveals an altar in polychrome Carrara marble and flamboyant Gothic style. Not far, the old Chapel of Penitents, a house perched on a double arcade spanning the street, now hosts the communal archives.

Events and festivities

The market is held every Saturday morning. In July and August, the market is held last Saturday at 17h, welcoming local producers and artisans.

In June, the town celebrates the fires of St. John.

Every year on the third weekend of July, Painters in the Street gather many local artists to exhibit their works.

The votive festival takes place every last weekend of July with its rides, wooden games, dancing meals and many other activities.

Mollans sur Ecran is a film festival taking place in July and celebrating the Franco-Belgian friendship.
