One of the great parts of living in New Jersey is that there is no shortage of beaches and boardwalks to visit during the summer months. There’s just something about the salt air in your hair, walking the boardwalk playing games and riding rides the screams Jersey summer to me. Growing up, I spent a lot of time in Seaside Heights, NJ so it was fun to load the kids in the car and head down for a day of fun at Casino Pier and Breakwater Beach Waterpark.

Having a toddler and a teenager, finding the right place where they both can have fun can be a little tricky sometimes. But not at Casino Pier in Seaside Heights, there was something for everyone.

PLAY AT CASINO PIER

Casino Pier and Breakwater Beach Waterpark are located right across the street from each other so you can easily start your day at the waterpark and mid-afternoon hit the boardwalk for some rides, fun and one of the best (and biggest) slices of pizza ever.

For the daring and older kids, there’s the Hydrus roller coaster. With a 72 foot vertical lift and a beyond-vertical drop, this ride is perfect for thrill seekers. Evie couldn’t get enough of watching her brother ride this. I have a feeling when she’s big enough, this will be her first roller coaster!

Then there’s the Ferris wheel. At 131 feet tall, this ride offers sweeping views of the Jersey Shore and no trip to the boardwalk is complete without a ride or two.

Pirate’s Hideaway was a fun ride for all of us to enjoy together.

For the smaller kids, there’s plenty of rides to keep them busy and having the time of their lives.

Arcade

Arcades and the boardwalk go hand in hand for me. I remember my trips to the boardwalk and how much I loved the arcades. We always finished off our day at the arcade before heading home. Now I follow that same pattern with my own kids. The arcade is always the last spot before head to before heading home.

You’ll find a variety the latest video and play to win games for your chance to win so fun prizes.

Space Invaders was a BIG hit with the kids. The game was huge and I couldn’t pull them away. One try and I saw why. It was FUN!

EAT

There are plenty of food stands throughout the Casino Pier Boardwalk where you’ll find something for everyone. There’s Curley Fries, which serve the areas freshest french fries, zeppoles and funnel cakes.  The Pier Grill located inside the arcade, it’s the pier’s flagship food stand and offers some of the BEST pizza in Seaside Heights.

Not only is it SO good, it’s HUGE! Eating pizza in Seaside is an experience itself and something you have to try at lest once. They also service boardwalk classics like cheesesteaks and sausage, peppers and onions. Open everyday during the season, and weekends in the winter, you can watch your favorite games on TV and enjoy a great meal anytime you feel like heading down to the Pier Grille

When you’re craving something sweet, Old Fashioned Waffles & Ice Cream makes the best and biggest waffles and ice cream on the boardwalk right in front of you while you wait! There’s also a Dippin Dots and Scaras Italian Ice among several other food locations to satisfy any of your cravings.

BREAKWATER BEACH WATERPARK

Across the street from the Casino Pier is Breakwater Beach Waterpark, Seaside Height’s wet and wild waterpark. Breakwater Beach if perfect for kids of all ages to adults.

There are plenty of water slides for anyone looking for a thrill and quieter rides like the Revolutionary Wild River where you can just leisurely float around for a bit of quiet time.

BEACHES

There are plenty of beach access points located right near the pier and if you’re in town for a few days a short ride over to Island Beach State Park, in Seaside Park is definitely worth it.  You’ll pay per car for beach access versus per person. Admission to the beach is $6 per car weekdays and $10 per car on the weekends for NJ residents. If you’re an out of state resident, the rates are $12 for weekdays and $20 for weekends.

STAY

While there is no hotel that is part of Casino Pier and Breakwater Beach Waterpark, there are plenty of rental homes in the area as well as motels and hotels that you can stay at to get the most out of your trip.

GETTING THERE

One thing I always loved was the ride to the shore. The excitement leading up to our visit and the scenic view as you drive over the Mathis Bridge knowing you are almost there is exciting in itself. Casino Pier is about an hour and forty five minutes from the Philadelphia area and 45 minutes from Central Jersey.  We arrived for our day at the beach in the Mazda CX-3.

While Casino Pier and Breakwater Beach can be done in as little as a day, 2 -3 days to fully experience everything the area has to offer is ideal. From beautiful beaches, to the Breakwater Beach Waterpark and the Casino Pier itself, Seaside Heights is a fun getaway perfect for all ages.
