Roulette Payout Calculator

The roulette payout calculator will help you to plan your betting strategy by finding your bet'soddsand potential winnings from the initial amount of money you plan to bet.

Within this roulette probability calculator, we will cover everything you need to know about betting on the roulette.

We will also detail how to play roulette, how to calculate odds in roulette, and answer questions such as:

  • 'What is the difference between American and European roulette';
  • 'What are the odds on roulette'; and more.

How is roulette played?

In roulette, the croupier spins the wheel, and players bet on which space the ball will land on when it stops. If a player accurately predicts the outcome, they get back their initial bet plus an additional payout which varies in size according to each bet type.

Let's now look at a typical roulette wheel and table layout before using the roulette payout calculator.

The roulette wheel and table

On a roulette wheel, the numbers range from 0 to 36. The numbers can be either black ⚫ or red 🔴, with zero (0) being the only green number 🟢.

Numbers placed next to each other on the roulette wheel have alternate colors.

The roulette can also have two different layouts:

  • European roulette, with 1 zero (0); or
  • American roulette, with 2 zeros (0 and 00).

As you can see, in American roulette, there is an additional scenario where the house wins (the extra 00 number). These additional scenarios where you lose may seem irrelevant, but it is the main reason why casinos make money, and it's called house edge on roulette.

How do I calculate odds in roulette?

To calculate the odds of winning your bet in a roulette game:

  1. Find the number of winning scenarios. If we bet on the number 24, there is exactly one scenario where we win.
  2. Find the total number of outcomes. In European roulette, there can be 37 different outcomes. In the American layout, 38.
  3. Divide the number of winning scenarios by the total number of outcomes. The result is the probability the bet turns out in your favor.
  4. Multiply this number by to express the probability as a percentage.

What are the odds on roulette? Types of bets and payouts

Within our roulette payout calculator, we have included multiple types of bets, and you can calculate their respective payouts with the following formula:

Payout=S36−1

In this formula, S is the number of spaces your bet covers.

Let's see each of the different ways you can bet on a roulette table and their resulting payouts.

Bets

You can place two types of bets on a roulette table, outside and inside bets:

Outside bets, bets located on the edges of the table:

  • Red/Black. You bet not on a number but a color. This bet covers 18/37 spots on the roulette table. Odds: % (European) and % (American). Payout: These odds are almost the same as in a coin flip (read more about this in our coin flip probability calculator).
  • Even/Odd. Bet on the ball landing on an even or odd number (casinos don't count 0 or 00 as even or odd). Odds and payout are the same as a color bet.
  • /. Same odds and payouts as previous bets. You win if the ball lands on your chosen half of the numbers.
  • Dozens. You bet on one of the three dozens of numbers (, , or ). Odds: % (European) and % (American). Payout:
  • Column. Same odds and payouts as a dozens bet. You chose one of the three columns on the roulette table.

💡 Payouts indicate how much of your initial bet, in addition to your placed amount, you will get if you win. A payout will yield twice your initial bet as winnings.

Inside bets, bets made on specific numbers individually:

  • Straight. Bet on a single number. Odds: % (European) and % (American). Payout:
  • Split. Bet on two numbers next to each other. Odds: % (European) and % (American). Payout:
  • Street. Bet on three consecutive numbers (4, 5, and 6, for example). To place this bet, position your chips on the outside line of the row where the numbers are located. Odds: % (European) and % (American). Payout:
  • Corner. Bet on four numbers. Usually, you would place your chips at the intersection of four numbers on the roulette table to indicate this bet. Odds: % (European) and % (American). Payout:
  • Double street. Bet on any two lines of three numbers next to each other. Odds: % (European) and % (American). Payout:

Roulette and house edge or expected value

🏠💰House edge, or expected value, is the amount the player wins or losses on average, proportional to their bet.

This roulette payout calculator already includes it for you, but we can also use the following formula to calculate the expected value:

E=P(W)⋅W−P(L)⋅L

Where:

  • P(W) are the odds of winning;
  • W is the amount you win;
  • P(L) are the odds of losing; and
  • L is the amount you lose;

If we calculate this for any $1 roulette bet, we will get the same result each time. This is because it's only related to the roulette's layout and not to the type of bet. For a straight bet, for example, we would get:

E=⋅35−⋅1=−

for the European layout, and:

E=⋅35−⋅1=−

for the American layout.

This means that, on average, we would lose $ for every dollar we bet in European roulette and $ for every dollar in American. This is the probability of the ball landing on 0 or 00, unless, of course, we are really lucky on a particular day. That house edge on roulette doesn't seem that irrelevant now, does it?

So, the odds on roulette are always against you 🎰. However, with this roulette payout calculator, you can plan how much you're willing to risk based on the amount you can get in return.

FAQs

What are the odds on 0 and 00 in roulette?

on European (for betting on 0) and on American layout (for betting either on 0 or 00 individually). The odds for 0 or 00 are the same as for every number: 1/37 or 1/38, depending on the table layout. Since the European table doesn't include 00, you can only place a bet on both (win on 0 or 00) on American tables. This bet gives odds.

What is the difference between American and European roulette?

European roulette has 37 spaces, numbers and number 0, while the American counterpart includes the 00 number as well, featuring 38 spaces instead. Since the number of total cases increases, the players have a more significant disadvantage in American roulette.
