Casino Salzburg

History of Casino Salzburg

It was back in that Salzburg became one attraction richer: Casino Salzburg at Schloss Mirabell opened its doors. Aficionados of “games of chance” from near and far were infected by the magic of the gaming tables, so much so that the casino soon relocated to the larger premises of Café Restaurant Winkler on the Mönchsberg. In , the gambling opportunities were expanded and the casino moved on a transitional basis to Schloss Klessheim. However, because the “temporary” venue captivated guests to such a degree, the powers-that-be ultimately decided to leave the casino right where it was.

Ideal Premises

Klessheim “pleasure palace” enthralls visitors even as they approach. Passing perfectly trimmed hedgerows, you make your way through the unique gardens, past the magnificent Triton Fountain and pedestals decorated with recumbent stags, to the actual entrance. Salzburg owes Schloss Klessheim to Archbishop Johann Ernst Graf Thun and his architect Fischer von Erlach. Aside from inspiration drawn from Versaille, he was also influenced by the Italian school. The spaciousness of the building combined with baroque elements adds to the casino’s appeal to locals and visitors alike.

The casino restored to its former glory

After extensive remodeling efforts, since the casino has greeted guests in renewed splendor.
