Crown Sydney opens doors to VIP-only casino

Today Crown Sydney CEO Simon McGrath said the company is "committed to delivering a safe and responsible gaming environment for all".

"Crown Sydney's restricted gaming facility has been designed with the highest levels of governance and compliance," he said.

"It is the only casino of its kind in Australia, with all patrons required to be a member or guest of a member and undergo comprehensive checks."

It opening comes after the casino was granted a conditional gaming licence.

The VIP-only gaming floors are held in the Crystal Room and Mahogany Room.

The approval of the condition gaming licence came more than a year after Crown was found to be "not suitable" to hold one.

The finding was part of an inquiry report that examined allegations of money laundering.

It determined that in its then-current form Crown Sydney Gaming Pty Ltd - the licensee for the new casino - was not suitable to hold a licence.

It listed six major changes that would have to be made for Crown to be assessed as being suitable to hold a gaming licence for the Barangaroo site.
