Station Casinos Announces Grand Opening of Durango Casino &#; Resort

The STN Sports Books took in a $, bet on Oleksandr Usyk at + odds before he beat the Tyson Fury last weekend. That bet cashed for $, You’ll recall that, just a few weeks ago, guests absolutely demolished the Books after Ryan Garcia, a huge underdog, bested Devin Haney. It was the worst boxing outcome for the books in a decade.

In referring to the Usyk/Fury fight, Jason McCormick, VP of STN’s Race & Sports, said, “Once again, boxing did not leave a good taste in our mouths.” That might be nothing more than a flesh wound if one NBA team is crowned champion. In fact, if one Western Conference team takes the cake, the Books will be baked like a Dead and Company crowd.

With all that in mind, let’s quickly look back at the past week in sports and peek at what’s ahead on the STN Sports app and at the STN Sports Books…

NBA Playoffs

If the Minnesota Timberwolves keep doing what they’re doing, the STN Sports Books will go more bankrupt than a Red Lobster. Of the remaining teams left in the NBA Playoffs, the Wolves carry the most liability, and it’s not even close. They carried the most liability going into the playoffs, and that’s only continued as they now square off against the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals.

“They&#;ve been heavily bet throughout the start of the playoffs and as they finished up the regular season,” said Jason McCormick, VP of STN’s Race & Sports. “It’s looking like it&#;s a train wreck for us as we move forward here. We’ve seen almost no Mavs money. There’s just not a lot of interest on the Mavs. I unfortunately expect the T-Wolves to win the series.”

The STN Sports Books are looking for a Boston tea party in the NBA Playoffs. The Celtics take on the Indiana in the Eastern Conference, and the money has been somewhat one-sided toward the Pacers. “The Pacers are a high-scoring team and they&#;re a threat to all these teams,” McCormick said. High scoring is an understatement, as points were scored in Game 1, a game that went to Boston. The Pacers have the highest odds to hoist the trophy (and they went up more after Tuesday night), but guests have been taking a shot at them.

“It looks like Boston will be the team that we&#;ll be cheering for heavily, not only in this series against the Pacers, but also then in the NBA Finals to knock down the T-Wolves or Mavs,” McCormick added. “The sports books all around town will be big Boston fans, but it is great to see some new teams and some new blood.”

NHL Playoffs

In beating the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night, the Edmonton Oilers became just another team to close out a series on the road — and the guests did well with that. The STN Books likely won’t be cheering for the Oilers at any point for the rest of the season, whether it’s against the Dallas Stars or an Eastern Conference team in the Stanley Cup Finals.

“People lean towards superstar players and they lean towards that offense,” McCormick said of Edmonton. “When you look at those games, it’s easier to want to put your money on Connor McDavid and [Leon] Draisaitl and all the ways that these guys are scoring goals.” The Stars, a very workman-like team, enter the WCF as slight favorites. The Oilers with all those star players have more production than the Electric Daisy Carnival. McCormick added, “I think at this point in time our best case is to watch the Dallas Stars roll through this thing, but we don’t have anything in terms of liability with the NHL like we do with the Timberwolves.”

The New York Rangers entered the Eastern Conference Finals rested, as they had six days off before beginning the series against the Panthers. Despite the Rangers having home ice, the Panthers come in as the favorite. Thus far, the wagering is very balanced. “No one is really jumping off the page right now,” McCormick said. “I think we&#;re looking towards two lengthy series here with the Western and Eastern Conference Finals. I&#;ll be really surprised if these aren&#;t six or seven game series. These teams are the class of the NHL and we&#;ve seen it all year long.”

NFL Spreads

&#;…With the first pick in the NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders select…” The STN Sports Books have posted spreads for all 17 Raiders games this upcoming season, and they are only favored in three games. Not much faith.

&#;Despite the fact that they&#;re only that short favorite, they have a lot of games that I guess you would consider winnable games,” McCormick said. “They had six game where they&#;re about a six point underdog or more, which is a telling sign.” Although the Raiders have nine road games this season, two of them are in Los Angeles, which equate to home games for the Silver and Black. In addition to the Raiders’ lines, spreads and totals have also been posted for all week one games, and guests are feeling more cheesy than a dad joke. Already guests have been all over the Packers against the Eagles, who were listed as an early favorite.

“We opened the Eagles one and a half and we are seeing some Packer money in that game against the Eagles,” McCormick said. &#;We’ve already had a lot of tickets on the Packers.”

Caitlin Fever is coming to Vegas. On Saturday, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will descend on the city, marking the college superstar’s Vegas debut as a pro. It’s been a rough start for Clark, as her Fever have gone colder than a Ortikia cocktail. “She’s brought so much more attention to the women’s game, and people are always asking for it to be on the TV at our Books,” McCormick said.

Ever since Clark’s first game (and even during her incredible collegiate run) prop bets tied to her performance have been available, and they will be on Saturday. Still, the belle of the ball is still the LVCVA-sponsored Las Vegas Aces, the most heavily-bet WNBA team. Considering it’s Las Vegas and Indiana at T-Mobile Arena, expect a huge handle.

Best of the Rest

Xander Schauffele’s PGA Championship win might have been overshadowed by Scotty Scheffler’s temporary residency at the Louisville jail. At the Sports Books, though, Schauffele’s win was a boon for the guests, as he entered the tournament with to-1 odds.

“There was a lot of money on Schauffele and a lot of people cashing tickets Sunday night and Monday morning. He ended up being a loser for us,” McCormick said. Although he didn’t win, Scheffler earned some street cred.

One STN guest at Durango Resort wasn’t horsing around last weekend, as he won $20, twin quinella during the Preakness Stakes.

Bets To Know

Race fans, unite! STN Sports Books will be posting multiple prop bets this weekend on Kyle Larsen as he attempts to drive in both a NASCAR race and the Indy Kyle is favored in the NASCAR race, and is among the favorites to be drinking milk in Indiana.
