GTA Online Is Wiping Cheater Accounts After Casino Chip Exploit

There are a lot of hackers and cheaters in Grand Theft Auto Online, and Rockstar Games is getting sick of it. Currently, the insanely popular multiplayer mode for 's Grand Theft Auto V is beset with all sorts of green and purple jumpsuit-wearing players acting as if they are aliens, a bizarre situation which has led to Rockstar making alien costumes free for all players to enjoy, just to see what happens.

However, amid all of the alien invasion in Grand Theft Auto Online, there is also a massive hacking community which delights in not only breaking the game's systems but also in accruing large sums of money without putting in the required effort. While some players may justify these actions as being perfectly in line with the spirit of any Grand Theft Auto title's gameplay and story, developer Rockstar isn't planning to just sit back and let players cheat their way to millions, especially when they're already giving hundreds of thousands of dollars away for free just for signing in.

As noticed by prominent Grand Theft Auto information tracker Tez2 on Twitter (thanks, Game Rant) it appears that Rockstar has not only completely wiped the bank accounts of some players who had engaged in Grand Theft Auto Online's latest money exploit, but has also given some offending accounts a complete character reset. The exploit in question revolved around selling casino chips from the Diamond Resort & Casino, one of Grand Theft Auto Online's newest additions.

According to the official Rockstar Games support website, updated earlier today, "Players found to be manipulating Casino Chip sales to gain GTA$ illegitimately have had those funds removed from their account or had affected characters reset." Rockstar doesn't appear to be playing around, and warns players that if they continue to try and abuse Grand Theft Auto Online's systems those actions "will result in a suspension or permanent ban" from the game altogether.

As Grand Theft Auto Online goes on, it seems like there are more and more hackers than ever before. While currently the amount of players trying to disrupt the game's balance don't outnumber the amount of vibrantly colored aliens in Grand Theft Auto Online, there are clearly still far too many cheaters for the developer's comfort. If players don't want to risk never getting the chance to drive and gamble in Grand Theft Auto Online again, or (at the very least) having to start their character over from scratch, then they should probably stay away from trying any funny business with the game's chips just like in a real casino.
