WAYLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A major expansion at the Gun Lake Casino is staying on track.
Crews are working on the $ million expansion that is adding a room hotel. It’s expected to open in March of , Vice President of Marketing Carter Pavey said.
He said the expansion — which will also include an enclosed atrium with swimming pools — will turn the casino into “a locals’ resort,” adding it will be the perfect place to have a staycation.
“We’re doing this because it’s something the community wants, it’s something they they’ve asked for,” he said. “It’s going to be able to provide that resort feel that you get in Mexico or you get in Florida or you get in Vegas — in your own backyard. So it’s going to allow you to be able to take more time to for yourself and for your family and to get away and without having to spend all the money with airfare and traveling.”

As the GLC team prepares for to open the expansion next year, they’re also getting the existing building ready for it with a $10 million renovation project. Crossroads Bar, which has been there since it opened, is set to be redone.
Crews will be adding a lounge and making it more intimate, Pavey said. He said it will be nicer with a “cooler vibe.” The outside of the bar will feature a large screen that can be used for things like advertising or photo ops.
Sand Hill Café will be relocated to the hotel portion, and its place will be the Lucky Dragon Noodle Bar and a new high-limit table games room. The games room will have three or four blackjack-style games along with nine baccarat tables.
“We’ve got a decent group of guests that like to come in and enjoy themselves with some … higher wagers,” Pavey said. “So we’re going in there and we’re providing what they want.”

He said the room will be “approachable,” with nice fixtures and seating. It will be a more intimate style of gaming, and it won’t be loud and hectic, like it can be on the casino floor.
Near the high-limits table games room will be the the seat noodle bar. The team is still working on refining the menu, but it will feature cuisine from all over Asia, including sushi, pho and authentic Chinese food.
“One of the best things about opening up a new restaurant is the taste testing. While my waist may not like it, it’s always a fun thing because we’re tasting the different dishes and making edits and tweaks,” Pavey said. “We’re getting ready to gear up for that process, so there’ll be a lot of a lot of flavors from various regions within Asia.”
Pavey said they’ve see a big demand for an Asian cuisine bar, adding that the Asian section of the buffet is very popular.
Gun Lake Casino already has several other food options, including a chop house, a brewery and a sports bar.
“To us, this was a natural thing to bring some different flavored cuisine to the property,” he said. “We have a lot of guests that asked for it, so we thought it was a good move to be able to provide them what they’ve asked for.”

There’s a lot of excitement around what’s next for the casino, Pavey said.
“It’s a very exciting time here,” he said. “We’re all very proud of what it’s going to become. And I think our guests are going to be blown away when they when they see the final results.”
