JACK releases its sports-betting app for free play (without money involved) in anticipation of real thing

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Legal sports betting is still a ways away, but practicing it for free is now available in Ohio.

JACK Entertainment released betJACK on Tuesday, both an online and mobile platform Ohioans can use for sports betting, but currently only with free tokens.

According to a news release, JACK released betJACK in anticipation of real money sports betting arriving in Ohio, which is still in the process becoming real after the Ohio Statehouse passed a bill allowing for it. The app will let people try their hand at sports betting without spending any money.

JACK says people using the betJACK app will receive a daily allotment of tokens each day they log in and can earn additional tokens with each winning bet. Wagers can be made on sports ranging from the NBA, MLB, NFL, and NHL games to international soccer, e-sports and rugby.

The app is the next step in JACK’s preparations for real sports betting. It can be seen at thisisnl.nl or on the Apple and Android app stores.

The deadline for state regulators to open up live sports wagering is Jan. 1,

With legal sports gambling on its way, JACK Entertainment is looking to build two physical sportsbooks at JACK Cleveland Casino and JACK Thistledown Racino in North Randall.

Both locations will have Las Vegas-style sportsbooks with video walls, comfortable lounge chairs and all the amenities that go along with that.

When sports betting is legal, betJACK will be converted into real-life betting.

The Ohio legislature passed legal sports gambling in December after three years of debate. Under the rules, Ohioans will be able to bet at retail sportsbooks, online or on apps and at kiosks at bars with specific liquor licenses, but not until all the rules and licensing are in place.

Jessica Franks, spokeswoman for the Ohio Casino Control Commission, said it could take six months to create the rules, which must be done before it can start taking applications.
