Louis Vuitton is known, among many things, for their monogrammed trunks. They’ve made them for centuries, but they’ve also made sure their trunks are culturally relevant. In years past they have released skateboard trunks, DJ trunks, and a casino trunk. During Art Basel Miami last December they debuted a trunk that holds 14 pairs of sneakers, low-tops and high-tops.

Last week the brand announced their partnership with the NBA, which kicked off with a trunk to house the Larry O’Brien Trophy, handed to the winning team of the NBA Championships in June, and made by the newest member of the LVMH family, Tiffany & Co. “Victory does indeed travel in Louis Vuitton,” chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, Michael Burke, said of the royal blue velvet-lined trophy trunk.

The monogram trunk has already been a carrying case for some of the most prestigious international sports cups—the Davis World Cup, the FIFA World Cup, the Americas Cup, etc. This, however, marks the first partnership with such a popular sport in America. “The tradition, heritage, and identity of Louis Vuitton create a natural synergy with the NBA,” said Basketball Association COO Mark Tatum.

There is an added symbiotic relationship between the NBA and Louis Vuitton, as so many of the players in the league are avid fans of the brand. The collaboration will continue to expand with an annual limited-edition capsule collection by Louis Vuitton men’s artistic director, Virgil Abloh.
