Casinos want gamblers to have a five-star good time.
An abundance of slot machines, free drinks, luxury suites, clubs, pools, concerts, and golf courses aim to keep people betting, and to keep them coming back. If the space feels like a refuge, people feel a stronger desire to gamble, casino design experts told the New Yorker.
Some casinos are better at it than others. Wynn Casino and Encore at Wynn, the two highest-rated casinos in the United States, are in Las Vegas and are owned by the same company.

Based on data from 360,781 TripAdvisor reviews, here are the top 50 casinos in the United States, ranked by their proportion of five-star reviews.
50. Harrah's in Council Bluffs, Iowa: 49.26% five-star reviews
Harrah's got 1,224 five-star reviews out of 2,485.
The casino first opened in 1996, and has 580 gaming machines and 18 table games. In 2013, it moved its casino from a gaming boat called "The Kanesville Queen" onto land, taking over space that used to be for its convention room.
49. Caesars in Atlantic City, New Jersey: 49.32% five-star reviews
Caesars got 7,841 five-star reviews out of 15,898.
It was the second casino to open in Atlantic City in 1979. It has 135 table games, more than 3,000 slot machines, and 1,100 rooms.
48. Agua Caliente Casino and Hotel in Rancho Mirage, California: 49.53% five-star reviews
Agua Caliente got 368 five-star reviews out of 743.
The casino, which opened in 2001, has 39 table games and 1,400 gaming machines. In 2019, the owners, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, announced plans to build a 10,000-seat arena for ice hockey and concerts. It's expected to be completed in 2021.
47. Horseshoe Casino in Tunica, Mississippi: 50.91% five-star reviews
Horseshoe Casino, part of the Caesars brand, got 1,733 five-star reviews out of 3,404.
The casino opened in 1995, and has 1,271 gaming machines and 70 table games. It's facing less local competition after three casinos in Tunica closed since 2014, due to a lack of revenue. Six casinos are still operating in the county. The closures are reportedly due to an expanding industry in neighboring Arkansas.
45. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tampa, Florida: 51.61% five-star reviews
Seminole got 803 five-star reviews out of 1,556.
The casino, which opened in 2004, has 179 table games and 4,100 gaming machines. In May 2019, it's looking to hire 1,200 new employees due to nearly finishing a $700 million expansion. The expansion includes a new 15-story hotel tower and 1,000 more slot machines.
44. Prescott Resort & Conference Center in Prescott, Arizona: 51.75% five-star reviews
Prescott got 399 five-star reviews out of 771.
The casino, which opened in 1992, has 10 table games and 300 gaming machines. The resort also has views of the United States' largest continuous forest of Ponderosa pines.
43. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida: 52.34% five-star reviews
Seminole got 1,519 five-star reviews out of 2,902.
The casino, owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, might soon be climbing the list. In October 2019, it plans to open a $1.5 billion expansion, including a 36-story "guitar hotel", which it claims is a world first.

Soaring Eagle Casino got 660 five-star reviews out of 1,236.
The casino, which is run by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, has 60 table games and 3,330 gaming machines. The casino made the news in January 2019 when a deer smashed through a window and knocked down an old woman. The last record of the deer was that it was confined, while "staff was waiting for someone to come in and shoot it."
41. The Borgata in Atlantic City, New Jersey: 53.95% five-star reviews
The Borgata got 1,270 five-star reviews out of 2,354.
The casino opened in 2003, and offers 186 table games and 3,000 gaming machines. It is one of Atlantic City's largest hotels and its top grossing casino.
40. Aliante Casino, Hotel and Spa in North Las Vegas, Nevada: 54.6% five-star reviews
Aliante Casino got 784 five-star reviews out of 1,436.
The casino, which opened in 2008, has 43 table games and 1,850 gaming machines. In 2016, it was bought by Boyd Gaming, which owns nine other casinos in the Las Vegas valley.
39. Eldorado Resort Casino in Reno, Nevada: 54.89% five-star reviews
Eldorado got 6,033 five-star reviews out of 10,991.
The resort has 815 hotel rooms, nine restaurants, and 1,100 slot machines. In 2018, James Bryant, a 52-year-old assistant manager at Eldorado, was killed when he tried to stop a disgruntled gambler who was leaving with chips he had just lost. The gambler punched him in the face and he collapsed and later died.
