Examine differing definitions of “consent” with an emphasis on how law and legal precedent have shaped these definitions over time.

Discuss assent and consent over the lifespan, including how these rights can shift or change with time or circumstance.

Describe the mental health professional’s role in obtaining informed consent including examination of how we operationalize “informed” consent.

Using case examples and vignettes, explain the limits of our ability to obtain truly informed consent and best practices for coming as near as possible.

Psychologists – Professional Training Resources is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for Psychologists.  Professional Training Resources maintains responsibility for the program and its content.

Licensed Professional Counselors – approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors to offer continuing education activities for National Certified Counselors.  We adhere to the National Board for Certified Counselors Continuing Education Guidelines.

Social Workers – This program has been approved for 16 (clinical) , 4 (general) and 3 (ethical) continuing education contact hours by the National Association of Social Workers, Louisiana Chapter, as authorized by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners, and may be applied toward the continuing education requirements for licensure renewal. Breakdown of hours:  Panic Disorder (4 clinical), Resilience (4 clinical), What Difference Does a “Y” Make (4 clinical), Sleep Disorders (4 clinical), Risk Assessment(4 general) and Informed Consent: Ethics (3 ethical).

Substance Abuse Counselors  &#; approved by the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority for 23 clock hours.

NASP &#; Professional Training Resources is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists to offer continuing education for school psychologists.  Professional Training Resources maintains responsibility for the program.

Other Professions – may apply for education credits through their respective boards.  Everyone in attendance will receive a certificate of attendance.
