When it comes to games with multi-level progressive structures, IGT has been coming on strong recently. One of their newest and most successful game series is the Mystery of the Lamp slot machine, which delivers two flavors of a multi-upgrade bonus structure.

Base Game

Mystery of the Lamp is the debut game on IGT’s new PeakCurve™ 49 cabinet. With beautiful graphics and sound, Mystery of the Lamp makes great use of the new cabinet’s high-resolution screen and speaker package.

The series has launched with two titles: Enchanted Palace and Treasure Oasis. Each are multi-denomination games whose line count changes based on denomination.

This is a 3×5 reel set design with a set number of pay lines. For lower denominations the game is in a 50-line format, but for higher denominations it’s in a lower 25-line count, a format familiar to players of multi-denomination games.

The base bet on 1 cent denomination is 80 credits. The second wager is 1.5x that allowing for a nice option to gradually increase your bet. The granularity of these options is refreshing – they offer a nice array of choices in the $1-$2 range, for players of a lower or middle budget.

Stacked wilds help boost wins in the base game, which is exciting – IGT tends to ensure even their base games have an opportunity for a big win.

There’s only one bonus to play for, which means a good amount of the value will be achieved in the Mystery of the Lamp Bonus.

Mystery of the Lamp Bonus

The key differentiator between the two themes comes in the bonus upgrades. Mystery of the Lamp has three bonus upgrades per title that can enhance your bonus. Even better, you can get 1, 2 or 3 bonus upgrades for a given bonus.

On the base game, gems that match the three bonuses available are on the reels. Landing one or more gems can trigger the bonus. Landing multiple gems of different colors could trigger that multiple bonus upgrade scenario.

Throughout the bonus, as you land gems that are linked to your upgrade(s), those gems will take actions to upgrade various elements on the board. Gems for bonuses you have not activated have the opportunity to activate that upgrade while in the bonus.

At its core, this Lock & Respin bonus is a familiar mechanic – you have three spins, and if you land another coin or gem, the counter resets to give you three more spins. The bonus ends when either you run out of spaces to fill or you go three spins without anything else landing on the remaining open reel spaces.

Jackpot Bonus

Both themes share the Jackpot Bonus. In it, you get a double high reel set (6×5) for the duration of the feature, meaning you have 30 places to land coins or gems, not just 15. Each time you land a white gem, it will showcase one of five prize opportunities. 

Collecting three of a particular prize will award it, whether a flat prize such as the Mini, or a jackpot such as the Grand! This game features five prizes, of which three are flat prizes and two are progressive jackpots. 

The Grand can only be won in this method – filling the board does not award the Grand. The Grand and Major progressive jackpots can only be won once – the other flat prizes could be won multiple times, as long as you collect enough white gems with the same prize name collected to do so.

Enchanted Palace Bonuses

Along with the Jackpot Bonus, the Enchanted Palace theme features these two additional bonus upgrades:

• Boost Bonus: Linked to the green gem, this bonus will upgrade all locked coins by a value that is selected when the gem lands. A strong value here can instantly boost a bonus to new heights!
• Collect Bonus: Linked to the blue gem, this bonus will collect all values on the locked coins and instantly award them. The coins remain, however, and will get awarded again at the end of the bonus, as per normal.

Treasure Oasis Bonuses

Along with the Jackpot Bonus, the Treasure Oasis theme features two other bonus upgrades that differ from the other theme:

• Ignite Bonus: Linked to the orange gem, this will select a locked coin that will then see its prize increased for every spin until the bonus concludes. This is especially helpful when landed early, as it will keep boosting the coin as you land other coins and reset the spin counter for more spins.
• Double Bonus: Linked to the purple gem, this bonus will double the prize on one or more coins each time it lands. It can double the same coin multiple times, and it can double coins that were activated by the Ignite bonus – this is a very strong combination when activated together! An individual locked coin can be doubled up to four times.

Takeaway

Mystery of the Lamp leverages a proven three-upgrade mechanic, but introduces new elements that offer something exciting and refreshing. Further, with the upgrades working together, they can yield some exciting moments when it all comes together!
