As many of you are no doubt already aware, new laws, rules and regulations have been put in place in The Netherlands.

This will have a huge impact on how things are done.

Licensing

Perhaps the single most important point is that the The Netherlands Gaming Authority Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) are now issuing licenses with these new rules.

So far only 10 licenses have been issued. (as of 30/09/)

This means that while you can still play MGA licensed casinos in The Netherlands, most of the casinos are withdrawing from the Dutch market so they do no hurt their chances when applying for their own Dutch operating license or risk being fined for continuing operation.

Waiting Times & New Rules

The second major issue is that as it currently stands, licenses can take up to 6 months to approve, which means many of your favourite casino brands may disappear well into the next year.

When they return they will have to abide by the rules set out for Dutch players, which include removing all current Dutch players from their databases and signing them up as a new customer.

'New' Dutch players will have verify by ID before they play as well as set limits as to how much they want to play. If they exceed those limits, the casino must inform them (possibly via on-site notifications/pop-ups).

Nothing else is known currently as to how they will enforce those limits.

Popular brands in NL like Toto, Holland Casino and Fair Play are among the 10 to receive a license but its unknown when they will go live with their websites and whether or not those websites will focus on slots, sports betting or live games.

In short, unless there is an improvement in the process of getting a license and the incredibly long time it takes currently, then most casinos will be temporarily leaving the Dutch market.
